3 BEDROOMS VILLA
 Luwih
 Ubud

The living room is an open pavilion characterized by coconut wood pillars and a cool terrazzo floor. Furnished with a comfy rattan lounge suite, a low coffee table and an antique sideboard, this breezy living space opens directly onto the pool deck, with a kidney shaped infinity-edge swimming pool, sun-loungers and umbrellas set against a breathtaking panoramic backdrop. Towering palms, flowering trees, statues, urns and an ornately carved stone basin, add to the tropical ambience. A thatched, deeply cushioned relaxation pavilion, known as a ‘balé bengong’, and a curved pool bar fashioned from creamy-coloured Palimanan stone complete the picture.

A winding stone stairway meanders down through the garden to another thatched balé bengong, dramatically positioned on a private stone terrace overhanging the river valley. Furnished with a circular table and chairs, this is another wonderful spot for chilling out. On one side of the living pavilion is a timber dining deck that appears to almost float upon a lotus pond. Sheltered by an overhanging roof, it houses a glass topped dining table and six chairs, and is a great place to enjoy a casual alfresco lunch.
A hallway behind the main living area offers access to the three bedrooms. A wooden staircase leads up to the air-conditioned master suite where a huge picture window slides open and presents a fantastic view of the valley. Boldly decorated in royal blue, the bedroom features a wooden floor and a king-size bed under a soaring pitched roof. Balinese hand-carved paras stone statues form the base of the matching bedside tables, and wooden blinds can be closed for privacy. Behind the bed is a lounge area with a comfortable sofa and a large flat screen satellite TV and DVD player. The en-suite dressing room, with another picture window, provides a glass fronted wardrobe with storage space, drawers and a safe deposit box. From here, big, sliding glass doors lead into the bathroom, the oversized terrazzo bath cleverly positioned to allow guests the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful rural views while relaxing in the tub. The bathroom also features a rain-shower, a huge wall mirror, and stylish ‘his ‘n’ hers’ glass washbowls set on a mirrored vanity unit.
The second bedroom is located downstairs. Air-conditioned, its timber floor is accented by a king size bed, a rustic carved wooden wall plaque, and a dressing area with spacious wardrobes. A TV and DVD player is provided, and a long, narrow horizontal window with frosted glass lets in more natural light above the desk. A private walled verandah is accessed via glass doors and is a restful place to sit, complete with a bulrush pond and a striking fascia. The en-suite bathroom is characterized by terrazzo and pebbles underfoot, a rain-shower, a large bathtub and twin glass washbowls. A sloping glass roof allows the light and fresh air to permeate.
The third bedroom is also located downstairs. It is air-conditioned and features twin beds, green walls, a wooden floor, TV and DVD, a desk, and glass doors that open onto a small and very private walled garden verandah with a wooden deck, garden furniture, and an ornamental pond fed by water spouts. The en-suite bathroom is fitted with a terrazzo bathtub and a rain-shower within a glass cubicle.
Another self-contained building at the entrance to the property offers further surprises. Entered via stepping stones over a lotus pond, Balinese statues spout water and a sweet scented frangipani tree rests upon a small island. Located beside the pond is a magnificent dining area, a glass topped dining table with eight chairs stands on a coloured slate-tiled floor and is flanked by a bright orange wall. Sliding glass doors border the pond on two sides and can be fully opened to allow the breezes to circulate. The pitched roof above the dining table, complete with skylight, extends the full height of the building and supports a stunning chandelier.
Immediately next to the dining area is a snooker room with a full-size snooker table, complemented by a mirrored bar complete with wine fridge. There is also a guest toilet accessed from this room. A staircase leads up to a mezzanine area, an indoor lounge furnished with a desk, comfy cushioned sofas, a huge flat screen TV and DVD, and a tiny pebbled balcony. An adjoining shower room features twin glass washbasins, a glass shower cubicle and a decorative cinnamon wood vanity unit.

Location

An hour and fifteen minutes’ drive from Ngurah Rai international airport, Ubud is Bali’s centre for fine arts, dance and music; while the surrounding villages are home to Bali’s most accomplished painters, dancers, musicians and carvers. This remarkable town is encompassed by magnificent terraced rice fields, rivers, traditional villages, art and craft communities, ancient temples and palaces. It is located 300 metres above sea level in the foothills of the central mountain range; this gives it a fresher, more pleasant climate than the southern coastal regions. The numerous art galleries in Ubud feature traditional and modern work; the museums showcase the island’s rich history, and the shops and the market stalls sell handicrafts, jewellery, woodcarvings, textiles, paintings and antiques. There are many, well-presented, cultural performances staged in the town, in particular the Hindu epic, the Ramayana; also the Kecak dance, the fire dance, the monkey dance and the Legong dance. The countryside around Ubud is particularly beautiful, with an abundance of trails offering memorable walks through the peaceful rice fields. The location is convenient for tours all over the island and is only a forty-minute drive from the coast.
